January 2018 Graduate Student Research Highlight: Tomasz Wdowik

Graduate student: Tomasz Wdowik, 6th-year Ph.D. student in Prof. Chemler’s group

Notable recent achievements:

First author publication: Tomasz Wdowik and Sherry R. Chemler, “Direct Synthesis of 2-Formylpyrrolidines, 2-Pyrrolidinones and 2-Dihydrofuranones via Aerobic Copper-Catalyzed Aminooxygenation and Dioxygenation of 4-Pentenylsulfonamides and 4-Pentenylalcohols”, JACS2017139 (28), pp 9515–9518 (Link)

Research highlight:

My research focuses on exploring oxygen as a reagent and/or oxidant for copper-catalyzed reactions that are useful for the synthesis of nitrogen and oxygen based heterocycles.

I enjoy a variety of resources that the Department of Chemistry and UB at large provide to extend my knowledge and skills in organic chemistry and beyond.

In my free time, I enjoy attending concerts, traveling, running, cycling and kayaking.

Congratulations, Tomasz!
