March 2017 Graduate Student Research Highlight: Amaris C. Borges-Muñoz

Graduate student: Amaris C. Borges-Muñoz, 4th-year Ph.D. student in Prof. Colón’s group

Notable recent achievements:

  • Title: Evaluation of an amide-based stationary phase for supercritical fluid chromatography
    Journal: Journal of Separation Science
Article was highlighted as the front cover of the journal: Volume 39, Issue 17, and September 2016
    Sep. Sci. 2016, 39, 3469–3476

Research highlight:

My research focuses on the development and evaluation of new stationary phases for liquid and supercritical fluid chromatography. Our goal is to achieve more hydrolytically stable structures with different moieties attached at the surface that can serve as a platform for further functionalization.

I enjoy being a graduate student at UB because there is a sense of comradery within the department that provides an enjoyable environment for learning. I am also lucky enough to have an extraordinary mentor like Dr. Colón and work with great people on a daily basis.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends, reading, music, the beach and traveling.

Congratulations, Amaris!
